Lucas Shaw is eking out a living by rounding up wild mustangs for trade, selling his grandpa’s white lighting and anything else he comes across in the wastelands of west Texas five years after the flu epidemic which caused the collapse of society. He stumbles upon the wake of an ambush where he finds only one survivor, a woman with serious injuries. Her life depends on Lucas believing her story and helping keep her safe from those that wish to recapture her.
Blake’s first novel in The Day After Never series, Blood Honor, paints a post-apocalyptic tale of desolation and depravity in a lawless dystopian. Reminiscent of the stories from the old West it is fast paced and gritty – think Clint Eastwood in his spaghetti westerns.
If you take away nothing else from this book it will be that you can never get too comfortable with your situation. You must always remain vigilant and have a backup plan. I can’t wait to read the sequel.
5 out of 5 stars.
