So, It Begins

Standard

Red Dragon cover

Alex Fletcher and his family are on their last vacation of the summer. It’s a family tradition that entails watching the Perseid meteor show. Little did they know that they were going to be in for much more.

Konkoly’s novella prequel to The Perseid Collapse Series, Red Dragon: A Post-Apocalyptic Survival Thriller is the perfect introduction to the series. This apocalyptic tale presents to you the actions happening prior to and the beginning of the “event”.

The emotions ranging from desperation to resignation are hard to ignore. It’s a short, fast read that piques your interest immediately. As always, Konkoly delivers!

Personal Growth from Tragedy

Deception

Jamie McDaniels has had a life of misfortune. She lost the love of her life during the Jakarta pandemic six years before leaving her with two young daughters to raise. Finding misplaced faith in her second husband, Jeff Michaud, she is relieved when Alex Fletcher sets her free. Now, seemingly alone on Durham Road, Jamie vows to take the upper hand in life and survive without anyone’s help.

Shaw’s first foray into the Kindle World of The Perseid Collapse Series, Deception on Durham Road, brings a strong, female protagonist to the forefront. This novella showcases how someone can turn their life around amid tragedy. Jamie is smart and teaches her daughters how to survive even when they roll their eyes at her.

The depth of character brought about by Shaw of Jamie is such that you grunt and groan with her as she works in the heat and humidity. We are even given a broader perspective of Todd, the selfish and misguided neighbor. You can visualize his repulsiveness through the language used to show his state of mind.

This novella gives you insight into the Fletcher’s abandoned neighborhood. Though not as prepared for this catastrophe as Alex and his immediate circle of friends, others did heed his advice and learned from the pandemic. It is excellent prepper friction.

They Will Forcefully Use You

Guild cover

Misha is a teenaged farm boy in the post-apocalyptic Guild, the society that runs what was once Denver.  He meets an attractive young lady on a trip into town with his father. She lures him into a trap set by the resistance. Is she friend or foe? Who are the good guys and who are the bad?

Parker’s novella, Guild: A Dystopian Short Story, shows us what each side of the powers that be will do to rule over the people. It is well written and hooks you into this dystopian world immediately. The two main characters are well developed. And, I would like to see more of them.

I’m hoping this was a test balloon that floated well for Parker. There is more of this story I would like to read.

The Enemy Within

Standard

The World Counters cover

Blake Jackson is at the homestead teaching others through Rebel Radio. His wife Sandra, is helping to coordinate the attacks in the southwestern states against the New Caliphate. All she needs is proof that the DHS is helping the enemy to confront the president. If she doesn’t get it soon or if the troops don’t stop the advance, then the Caliphate will have the codes to our nuclear weapons.

Craven’s tenth novella The World Burns series, The World Counters, takes place mainly at the forefront of the battle in the southwestern states. Trying to sort out who in the government is aiding the Caliphate requires deception and stealth on behalf of the Kentucky Mafia.

This is to me the best book in the series thus far.

Defense is needed all around

Standard

Ashes of the World cover

Blake Jackson and his new extended family are busy putting away food for the coming winter. Sandra Duncan’s father, who is a preacher by trade, has agreed to marry them. Soon after they discover a hostile group looking to take over their farm.

Craven’s second novella in The World Burns series, Ashes of the World, continues Blake’s story as he tries to put all that he has learned and blogged about into the real world in which he now finds himself. With the addition of the Cayhills the work distribution is easier, but is it enough to fend off a larger attacking force?

Another well edited short read full of action and suspense.
