Profits Before County

Standard

The Raid cover     Ryan Decker has returned but is now working with Harlow Mackenzie and company. Border patrol personnel are killed in an odd set of circumstances involving an explosion south the border. Senator Steele calls upon Decker to investigate privately for her. Now, the entire group is in danger. Will they be able to expose the cover-up without losing their lives in the process?

Konkoly’s second novel in the Ryan Decker series, The Raid follows Decker after his life was almost destroyed by a deep state conspiracy.  The spark that was ignited between him and Harlow is fanned a bit throughout this book. Old nemeses don’t seem to want to go away.

This story is full of action and adventure as one might expect. But what I found most intriguing was the characters. The support crew is very diverse and add levity in some of the most serious situations. As with the first novel the story touches on human trafficking.

The Right Thing Gone Wrong

Standard

The Rescue Cover

Ryan Decker, a former CIA operative turned mercenary, is framed in a hostage rescue gone bad. Most of his team were either killed during the op or murdered shortly thereafter along with their families. After serving only part of his sentence Decker is mysteriously freed. With the help of private investigator, Harlow Mackenzie, he goes on a quest to find the truth.

Konkoly’s first novel in the Ryan Decker series, The Rescue, pulls out all the stops in this high-speed thrill ride. The character development is some of the best I’ve read. The story is so compelling that you cannot put it away. The hairpin twists will have you going “What!?!?”

Seems like everyone wants Decker dead. But, why? There are many layers to this story. Peeling back each one to reach the core is more exciting than a theme park ride.

So, It Begins

Standard

Red Dragon cover

Alex Fletcher and his family are on their last vacation of the summer. It’s a family tradition that entails watching the Perseid meteor show. Little did they know that they were going to be in for much more.

Konkoly’s novella prequel to The Perseid Collapse Series, Red Dragon: A Post-Apocalyptic Survival Thriller is the perfect introduction to the series. This apocalyptic tale presents to you the actions happening prior to and the beginning of the “event”.

The emotions ranging from desperation to resignation are hard to ignore. It’s a short, fast read that piques your interest immediately. As always, Konkoly delivers!

An Assassin Is Born

Standard

Inception cover

Daniel Petrovich starts out as the authority adverse, Lieutenant Junior Grade in the Navy. He goes on to become the cold-blooded assassin, Marko Resja in the off the books Black Flagged program. He meets all the requirements and is easily molded into his new identity. And, he is most deadly.

Konkoly’s novella Black Flagged Series Prequel, Inception, is Daniel’s origin story. While he is not the easiest protagonist to like, he grows on you if you continue with the series. It always amazes me the amount of detail and precision the Konkoly goes to in his stories.

I was excited to get this novella at first. It starts off well and grabbed my attention. It is action-packed and very intense. What disappointed me was the lack of information regarding the actual training at General Sanderson’s camp. I wanted more and felt a bit shortchanged.

When Black Ops Collide

Standard

Covenant cover

Daniel and Jessica Petrovich along with more of General Terence Sanders’s elite Black Flagged operatives are preparing to take down Dr. Anatoly Reznikov once and for all. As the most dangerous bioweapons scientist in the world Dr. Reznikov has been captured and liberated more often than a cat with nine lives. The Mossad has a team going after Reznikov’s handler. Both groups are targeting the same place at the same time. Neither knows the other is there. The fireworks are about to begin!

Konkoly’s latest entry into The Black Flagged Series, COVENANT: A Black Ops Thriller, book 4.5 is right on target. It has all the thrill and suspense you’ve come to expect with this series. Fast-paced action, well-developed characters, and a Russian mafia are all packed into this novella. It is also professionally edited.

This story focuses more on Jessica’s character. While not a back story it does show you how she processes a situation out of the norm for an op. I was not originally a fan of the cold-blooded killers that the Petrovichs are. Konkoly has made them likable and somewhat normal.

Knowledge in the Shadows

Standard

Fire Storm

Chang and the gang have made it outside the quarantine zones of Indianapolis where they will part ways. David will take his son, the Harpers, and Larsen to his parents’ home. Sanderson’s people will take Chang and Dr. Hale to continue the virus research. Shortly after parting, the evil that unleashed this hell rears its ugly head. Will either group make their destination or will the evil powers that be rain down upon them?

Konkoly’s third novel in The Zulu Virus Chronicles. Fire Storm: A Post-Apocalyptic Pandemic Thriller, finally reveals who is behind the virus and the lengths that they will go to keep that information contained. This book is every bit as action-packed as the first two. Fortunately for me, there are no zombies in this installment.

Larsen’s deadpan humor helps break the tension and has even become expected. Even David is starting to use Larsen’s turn of phrase. To me, Larsen has become the antihero of the series and one of my favorite characters. I’d enjoy seeing more of him in future books.

This series has focused on the micro while the virus was unleashed across the nation in strategic cities. I don’t know if Konkoly has plans for another series of books that will explore how the world is viewing the United States in this dire situation. It would also be fascinating to see how our own people deal with the repercussions of the virus on the economy.

Regardless of where Konkoly goes next, this book is a must read.
